S2 moving into S3 - choosing Standard Grades
In S1 and S2 pupils have the chance to sample most of the subjects
available in school and familiarise themselves with the secondary school
environment and set up. Midway through S2, pupils will choose the
subjects they want to study during S3 and S4. It is important for your
son/daughter to make informed choices at this early stage.

S3 moving into S4 - exam preparation
The main difference between S3 and S4 will be the emphasis on
preparation for exams. Preliminary exams are taken midway through S4,
with final exams taken at teh end of S4, during May and June. Homework
and revision are important at all stages of school, but particularly
from S3 onwards - when hard work will pay off in exams.

S4 moving into S5 - required qualifications
If your son/daughter moves from S4 into S5 they may have a good idea of
which subjects they enjoy and what they would like to do when they leave
school. if they plan on going to university they will need to be aware
of the entry requirements for their chosen programme of study. These
entry requirements should determine which qualifications they study in
S5 and S6.

S5/6 moving to post-school preparation for college/university
If your son/daughter is interested in going to college or university,
they will begin working on their University and College Admissions
Service (UCAS) application midway through S5 or S6. it is important that
they familiarise themselves with the programmes of study available and
the college and universities that provide them.
