Workshop content
One of the ways in which the Families and Schools Partnership Officer will support pupils and their families is by organising workshops at FOCUS West schools. Workshops can cover the main issues and periods of transition affecting their sones and daughters, including:

  • The work of FOCUS West
  • School-based qualifications
  • The benefits of FE and HE
  • FE and HE myths and misconceptions

The workshops also emphasise the significant influence that parents and families have on their child's education acheivements, encouraging them to be proactive in engaging with both their child's education and their school. To ensure continuity and maximum impact, the parent workshops are most effect when delivery coincides with their son/daughter's participation in a FOCUS West activity.

In addition to delivering specific workshop sessions, the Families and Schools Partnership Officer is available to attend general parent information evenings to present information on issues such as:

  • how parents can support their children's transitions to college and university
  • routes to college and university
  • financial concerns about post-school study
