S4 Moving to S5
Required qualifications
By the time your son/daughter moves from S4 into S5 they may have a good idea of which subjects they enjoy and what they would like to do when they leave school. If they plan on going to college or university they will need to be aware of the entry requirements for their chosen programme of study. These entry requirements should determine which qualifications they study in S5 and S6.
As a parent, questions you will want to consider when helping yout son/daughter meet the entry requirements are:
- Have they looked through college and university prospectuses to see which programmes of study are available?
- What are the entry requirements for their chosen programme of study?
- How many Highers are required if they plan on going to college or university after S5?
- How many Highers are required if they plan on going to college or university after S6?
- Is there an alternative route to college/university in case your son/daughter fails to meet the entry requirements?
- Do the college/university have additional requirements other than exam grades (e.g. work experience, portfolio, auditions)?
